Numerical analyses of long fiber–reinforced polymeric sheets processed by Single Point Incremental Forming

Abstract Polymeric matrix composites (PMCs) have gained increasing relevance in different industrial applications and their employment results to be a necessity the production of lightweight structures. The manufacturing solutions, which allow properly shape PMC panels, need molds for shaping material reducing process flexibility. In this context, single point incremental forming (SPIF) could valuable solution if customized properties. Herein, possible variant is introduced its capability long fiber–reinforced thermoplastics was evaluated. To achieve aim, numerical model implemented focusing attention, first, on properties that considered proper construction. performed simulations showed applicability SPIF sheets. Furthermore, executed pointed out influences some variables quality formed parts showing arising defects, such as wrinkling rippled surfaces, at conditions providing first proof concept proposed working solution.
